KANSAS CITY, Mo.. - The MIAA announced its post-season academic awards for the Spring 2023 teams. In total, fifty two Newman student athletes across six sports earned academic honors from the MIAA.

Six student athletes earned the MIAA
Academic Excellence Award. To earn the honors, a student athlete must have a cumulative grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 4.00 or better at the certifying member institution and have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

Hayden VanDePol and
Ian Lecki earned Academic Excellence from baseball, and
Pedja Kolaric earned it representing men's tennis. Alicia Nguyen and Gabrielle Posch earned Academic Excellence representing women's golf and
Amber Hands of women's earned the honors.

Antonia Ramos was the lone Jet to earn
Scholar Athlete honors from the MIAA. To earn Scholar Athlete, one must have a cumulative grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 at the certifying member institution and have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. If competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, the student-athlete must earn All-MIAA honors and if competing in a sport without an MIAA championship, the student-athlete must either be selected to an All-Region/District team in a team sport, or qualify for the national meet in an individual sport.

Antonia finished the academic year with a 3.654 GPA and earned honorable mention for doubles in women's tennis this season.
All fifty two student athletes earned a spot on the
Academic Honor Roll list. To get on the Academic Honor Roll list, one must h ave a cumulative grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution and have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
