WICHITA - After almost a month of competing on the road, Volleyball finally hosted their home opener against #9 Nebraska-Kearney. The Jets had participated in 2 mutli team events and had all of their opening conference matches on the road.
The opening set of the evening was one of the best sets the Jets had put together this season, going toe to toe with a nationally ranked opponent on their home court. The Jets were able to narrow the score down to one point late in the set, causing UNK to use one of their time outs. The Lopers were however take advantage, scoring the final six points to win the first set.
The beginning of the second set looked like it was going to be another close one as both teams battled for a winning edge. The Lopers went on a massive run to end the set, despite the Jets looking impressive in defeat.
The third set, again although not flattering to the scoreline, was another close one. The Jets hung tough with the Lopers until the very end, and although were swept 3-0, showed that they could hang with some of the best.
Natalie Meyer and
Lily Hilgenfeld had an impressive offensive night, with 8 and 7 kills respectively.
Mckinzie Weaver added 19 more assists, while
Natalie Trigo led the team in digs with 10.
The Jets will be back at home on Friday, taking on Fort Hays State at 6 P.M.
