WICHITA - In what was a close game the entire way through, the Jets hosted the Hillcats in a midweek MIAA Conference game as Newman looked for it's first MIAA home win of the season.
An
Amaya Perez three pointer gave the Jets an early lead, but it would be one that they would be unable to hold on to for very long.
As Rogers State began to pull away,
Jaeden McMillin brought the Jets back into the game with four quick points to bring the Hillcats lead down to a couple possessions. McMillin continues to be one of the best threats going forward coming off of the bench for Newman.
A
Carli Carlson three in the second quarter brought it down to just a single possession, but it was the start of the longest Hillcats run of the evening. The Jets were held to just one more point in the quarter.
The second half was much better from Newman, as they outscored the Hillcats in both of the second half quarters.
The Jets best quarter was the fourth, as they had 19 points in the period as they attempted to mount a comeback. Getting the score down to just single digits with a few minutes to play, the Jets looked a much improved team on both sides of the ball.
It was not enough however, as Rogers State squeaked by with a 12 point victory in a game that was closer than the score indicated.
On the defensive side of the ball, Newman held the Hillcats to just two three pointers on 14 attempts.
McMillin was just a rebound short of a double-double, as she had 15 points and 9 rebounds to end the game.
The Jets will return home on Saturday afternoon, as they will have another chance to get their first home conference win as they host Northeastern State on Saturday.
