Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jets overcome early deficit, but unable to hold on against RiverHawks

WICHITA - Men's Basketball overcame several early scoring deficits in the first half, but weren't able to maintain momentum as they faded late in the second half.

The Jets have had a solid record at Fugate this season, with all of the Jets six wins coming at home, with three of them coming over MIAA opponents.

As each team traded the lead multiple times, it seemed that neither team would be able to take a strong advantage. And for most of the game it was that way until late in the contest.

The RiverHawks would break away eventually, but two back to back three pointers from marksmen Latik Murphy halted Northeastern State's momentum going into the second half.

With Stevie Smith fouled during a three point attempt, his free throw makes made the game a one possession game for the first time since the middle of the first half.

The Jets finally retook the lead with back to back three pointers from Murphy and Kaeson Fisher-Brown

Three pointers continued to flow for both teams, with it again looking like an offensive stalemate where each team would answer each other with a big shot.

A long scoring drought for the Jets followed and during this frame, the RiverHawks took a firm advantage they would not give up.

The Jets brought it within four several times, but the late shots just would not fall as the Jets lost a close one, 74-68.

Stevie Smith was the Jets leading scorer, grabbing 20 and shooting very well from the free throw line. Latik Murphy would score all of his points from three in the game.

The Jets will have a tough road test next weekend, as they head to Missouri to take on Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State.
