MARYVILLE, Mo. - Men's Basketball had a tough outing on the road today, as they took on the #24 ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats on Saturday afternoon.
The Jets had faced off with another ranked opponent in their previous game, as they fell to #25 Missouri Western on Thursday.Â
The Jets couldn't have asked for a worse start as the Bearcats started the game on a 12-0 run.Â
Latik Murphy got some of the Newman offense rolling, hitting a long jumper and nailing a three pointer to get the Jets back in reach of the Bearcats lead.Â
Newman was able to stop some of the bleeding and had some good defensive stands. A bit of momentum for the Jets swung in their favor at the very end of the half, as Sam Somerhalder beat the buzzer to put the Jets in a good position.Â
Both teams came out swinging in the second half. A Chase Wiebe three pointer cut the lead even further.Â
That would be the closest the Jets would get to the lead as it was nothing but the Bearcats for the last 15 minutes.Â
Newman would have a run at the end of the game, but it was nothing that would change the outcome of the game, resulting in a 76-47 loss for Newman.Â
Sam Somerhalder was Newman's leading scorer, getting nine points.Â
It was a frustrating day on the court for the Jets, and will look to end their recent slump with their next three games at home, beginning with Central Oklahoma next Saturday.Â
