MARYVILLE, Mo. - Women's Basketball continued their Missouri road trip on Saturday, taking on yet another top team in the conference in Northwest Missouri State.
It was another tough start on the road for the Jets, as they were only able to get three points in the opening stages of the game. Newman would eventually find its groove, and started to hit some shots against one of the best defenses in the MIAA.
Valeriya Lioukina had three rebounds in just the first minute of the game, and would continue to add to her total throughout the game, reaching 10 boards with 5 points.
The Jets would go on a few scoring runs in the first half, with a Carli Carlson three pointer bringing the game down to just eight points while closing in on halftime.
The Jets had a much better showing on both sides of the ball, with the Jets trailing by several possessions at halftime, enough to keep the game competitive.
Freshman Jaeden McMillin was the top threat for the Jets once again, as she led all Newman scorers with 16 points, getting most of her offensive production in the second quarter where she scored nine of her points.
The Jets best offense was in the first half, but slowly faded in the second half. Northwest Missouri churned out some big offensive moments, hitting plenty of three's in the third and fourth quarters.
The Jets would go on to fall 49-79 in the contest, despite the close first half.
The Jets will be at home for their next three games, with the first against Central Oklahoma next Saturday at 1:30.
