TOPEKA, KS. - Following their first conference win against Emporia State on Wednesday, the Jets headed to Topeka to take on the Washburn Ichabods in what would be one of their toughest opponents on the schedule this season.
Following a 4-0 deficit to start the game, the Jets responded with six points of their own, with each basket coming from a different Jet.
Freshman
Jaeden McMillin and Sophomore
Valeriya Lioukina played a crucial role in the first first half as their buckets helped the Jets stay in pace with the Ichabods.
A three pointer from
Amaya Perez gave Washburn just a one point lead as the Jets continued to push on both sides of the ball.
Amiya Josey helped lead the way scoring nine points in the first half, as the Jets cut down the lead to just three points at the half.
The Ichabods would take control in the second half, and while the scoreline would not indicate that it was close, the Jets still played hard and did have some memorable moments.
Monica Redondo had a good second half, getting a three and going perfect from the free thrown line in the second half. She would finish as joint top scorer for the Jets, getting 11 points.
Dani Williams had two three pointers in the second half, including a buzzer beating three at the end of the third quarter, showing the Jets were going to fight until the end.
McMillin continued her debut season with 11 points in the outing, going three of five from the field.
The Jets will return home for the next two games, as they will host Rogers State and Northeastern State in Wichita.
