14 threes leads Jets to first win of the season

Grampsas scores 22 in win against Central Christian

 WICHITA- Women's Basketball hosted Central Christian for a Monday night match up. 

How it Happened:
In the first quarter, the Jets jumped out to a hot start after Saige Grampsas hit a three and Paige Craft hit a jumper on the next possession to take the lead at 5-0. The Tigers were able to bounce back with a three of their own on the next possession to make it 5-3. The Jets then went on a run to extend their lead to 13-3 after Craft connected with a three, Delainey Wylie hit the layup off a pass from Monica Redondo, and another Grampsas three. The Tigers ended the Jets run with a layup, but the next possession Brooklyn Love got in on the action with a layup to put it back at a ten-point lead. The Tigers wouldn't go away, hitting a few free throws and a three pointer to get back within five points at 18-13. To end the quarter, the Tigers closed the gap to just three at 18-15. 
- Layla Pierce started out the Jets offense in the second quarter with a jumper to push it to a five-point game in favor of the Jets. Another three by the Tigers closed the gap again to just three. A three by Wylie brought some energy to the Jets and put the spread to seven with over 5 minutes left in the half. The Tigers stayed in the game with their hot shooting from the three, making it a three-point game at 26-23. Love connected with a three on the next possession to extend the Jets lead to six. The Tigers pulled within one after an offensive rebound put back to make it 31-30, still in favor of the Jets. A three by Chloe Clevenger gave the Tigers their first lead of the game. Free throws by Grampsas with under 30 seconds left in the half tied it at 33 all. McMillin found Wylie as time expired to hit the layup and take the lead at 35-33. The Tigers shot 50% from three in the second quarter. The Jets couldn't get their shots to fall in the half, shooting 26.7% from the field.
- Out of the break, Grampsas connected with her third and fourth three of the night to help the Jets keep their lead at 41-36 with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. A Wylie jumper and a Craft three put the Jets up 46-39. The Tigers kept battling back, not allowing the Jets to extend their lead out of reach. An and one by the Tigers put them back without four points. Grampsas connected with her fifth three of the game and Love put in her second three of the night to give the Jets a double-digit lead with under three minutes left in the third quarter at 52-42. Katie Weiss connected with her first points of the night with a three that put the Jets up 11. McMillin hit a three of her own on the next possession that extended the Jets lead to 14 at the end of the quarter, 58-44. The Jets shot 77% from three in the third quarter, and 53.3% from the field. While the Tigers went cold in the quarter, shooting just 20% from three and 23.1% from the field. 
- The Tigers were first to strike in the fourth quarter, with two baskets that cut the Jets lead back to just ten. Pierce and Lioukina both answered with layups to extend the Jets lead to 14 with just over six minutes left. The Jets then found Wylie alone next to the basket to put an easy two in for a 16-point lead. The Tigers kept battling, hitting a three to stop the Jets run. Grampsas answered with a floater in the paint for her 19th point of the game. The next bucket by the Jets came from a Grampsas three, her seventh of the night to make it a 14-point game with three minutes to play. Charlize Williams added her first points of the night with a minute to go to put the Jets up 18. The Jets finished the game on top, 75-59. 
 
Player Notes:
Grampsas led the Jets with 22 points, going 7-14 from the field and 6-10 from the three-point line with 5 rebounds.
- Wylie added 14 points going 5-9 from the field and adding six rebounds.
- Lioukina led with ten rebounds.
