Women’s Basketball edged out by Eagles

Jets fall on the road to Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla.- The Jets traveled to Edmond to take on Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference match-up. The Jets last took on the Eagles in 2022. This time out, the Jets fell 72-65.

How it Happened:
-The Jets were first to score with a connection by Valeriya Lioukina. A three pointer by Jaeden McMillin on the next possession put the Jets up 5-2. Monica Redondo and Delainey Wylie connected with layups on back to back layups to take the lead at 9-4. However, the Eagles were staying with the Jets and were able to cut the lead to just two  with five minutes left to play in the quarter. Layla Pierce got the Jets offense back up and running with a jumper and her first bucket of the night. The next Jet score was a three pointer by Pierce to put the Jets up 14-12. The Eagles then tied it with under two minutes in the half. The Eagles were able to tie it back up again, but Brooklyn Love was able to earn and connect with two free throws with 30 seconds left in the quarter to take the lead 16-14. 
- Out of the quarter break, McMillin was first to score with a bucket in the paint to push the Jets lead out to four. Lioukina was able to connect with another layup with under nine to play in the half. Redondo and Lioukina then connected with back to back buckets to take the lead at six points. The Eagles wouldn't go away and were able to continue to stick with the Jets through the quarter. A jumper by Paige Craft extended the Jets lead to eight with just under six minutes left to play, but the Eagles then went on an 8-0 run that tied it up at 28-28. Pierce stopped the Eagles run with a jumper. The Eagles then took the lead with 2:38 to go. Lioukina's jumper with seven seconds left cut the deficit to one. The Jets went into halftime down 32-33. Pierce added nine points, going 4-9. Lioukina added eight points with four points. 
-Out of halftime, the Jets scored first with two free throws by McMillin which gave the Jets the lead at 34-33. Lioukina recorded another bucket with under eight minutes left. Redondo got in on the second half action with two free throws. Later, the Jets would take the lead at 43-43 with free throws by Lioukina. The Eagles continued to battle with the Jets and held even through the third quarter. Buckets by Saige Grampsas and Love gave the Jets the one point edge going into the fourth quarter.
-The fourth quarter continued to be a battle between both teams. Craft scored first out of the break with a layup to take the lead to 58-55. The Eagles were then able to retake the lead with under six minutes left. The Eagles kept the lead for the majority of the quarter. Buckets by McMillin, Lioukina to keep the Jets within a few points. Redondo brought the Jets back within two with a layup around the three minute mark. Two free throws by the Eagles gave them the four point lead with 1:23 remaining. The Jets were unable to convert on the possession following the Eagles free throws, allowing Oklahoma Christian to add to their lead with 43 seconds left to 70-65. The Eagles free throws put the game away. Oklahoma Christian took the game, 72-65. 

Player Notes:
-Lioukina led the Jets offense with 14 points while adding eight rebounds. 
-McMillin added 12 points with five rebounds. 

The Jets are back next week in Springfield, Missouri for the Drury Thanksgiving Classic where they will take on Truman State and Drury.
