WICHITA- The Jets hosted the first day of MIAA/GAC Challenge play. The Jets first faced Arkansas Monticello. Newman dropped their home opener, 73-47.
How It Happened:
- The Jets competed hard in the first quarter of play. Two buckets by
Monica Redondo helped the Jets secure a 5-2 lead in the first minute and a half. Monticello fought back with free throws to make it a 6-5 lead in favor of the Blossoms. A three pointer by
Delainey Wylie regained the Jets lead. After this bucket, Monticello went on run to end the quarter with a five point lead at 24-19.
-In the second quarter, the Jets were first to score with a three pointer by
Jaeden McMillin. The Jets were then able to close the gap to just two points after a three pointer from Laya Pierce. Monticello then went on a run to extend their lead to ten points at 35-25. Free throws by
Paige Craft cut the deficit to eight. However, Monticello was able to score another basket and a free throw to end the half with an eleven point lead at 38-27. Redondo and Pierce entered the half leading the Jets in points, with six a piece. McMillin added five points and four rebounds.
-Out of the half, the Blossoms were first to score to extend their lead to 14. A jumper from
Brooklyn Love cut the lead down to 12, but Monticello was able to battle back with a basket of their own. Through the third quarter, the Blossoms were able to secure their lead around the 15 point mark. Heading into the third quarter, the Blossoms had the lead at 53-37.
-After the quarter break, the Jets came out battling with baskets by McMillin and
Saige Grampsas. However, the Blossoms were able to extend their lead to 25 with five minutes left. After this mark, the Jets were unable to close the gap.
-The Blossoms took the game, 73-47.
Player Notes:
-McMillin led the Jets on the offensive end with ten points and led the Jets with six rebounds.
-Pierce added eight points and two assists.
-Haleigh Crews led the Blossoms with 21 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
The Jets are back tomorrow at 6 PM to face Southern Arkansas on day two of the MIAA/GAC Challenge.
