WICHITA - Women's Basketball faced off against one of their most formidable foes Thursday evening, hosting Missouri Southern. Southern is currently on one of the longest win streaks in the country, coming into Thursday's game on a 12 game winning streak.
The Jets had a really good start to the game, keeping pace with the Lions in almost every facet of the game in the first quarter. Holding their own, they came back to take the lead a few times in the quarter, and would just be down one going into the next period. All of the Jets points came in the paint in final five minutes of the quarter, which they absolutely dominated for a period in time.
The Lions went on a lengthy run in the second quarter to take an advantage, with Newman not being able to score a point with just 3:15 remaining in the period.
Monica Redondo's three pointer gave the Jets a lifeline going into half, with the Jets still a touching distance away of the lead.
The Jets kept the Lions at bay to open the third quarter and went on a 3-0 run in the opening minutes, but the tide was turning in favor of the Lions.
It seemed like the Lions couldn't miss, as they continued to drain shots despite the Jets best efforts on defense.
The rest of the game showed why the Lions had been on their long winning streak, and while the game was competitive in the first half, the second half was complete domination from Missouri Southern.
Valeriya Lioukina and
Amiya Josey led the way in scoring tonight, getting 9 and 8 points respectively
The Jets will have one more game at home this week, taking on Pittsburg State at 1:30 PM on Saturday.
