Box Score KEARNEY, Neb. - Women's Basketball played in a second tight contest of the weekend, nearly taking a win off of Nebraska Kearney.
Amiya Josey, who set a career high in points on Thursday against Fort Hays State, equaled the mark with another impressive performance over the weekend.
The Jets got on the board early with multiple three pointers, which challenged the Lopers lead but never took it away. A
Carissa Beck three tied the game at 13, but after a streaky 9-0 scoring run, the Jets found themselves down 22-17, but not before a 4-0 run from
Amiya Josey in the last minute of the quarter.
Another UNK scoring run put them by 11, but back to back threes from
Amiya Josey put Newman right back into the game.
Josey had nine points in the second quarter, helping her tie her career high in points later in the afternoon.
But, once again, the Lopers went on a third scoring run, their third of the half, to put themselves up by 11 again.
A big scoring run from the Jets led by Josey had the Lopers on their heels, but Newman couldn't find the crucial shots to tie or take the lead.
Delainey Wylie had another impressive day on the defensive side of the ball, getting four blocks to extend her lead for the most in the MIAA. She would also prove to be a major attacking threat late into the game.
With the Jets having one of their best three point shooting days of the year, they made a good portion of them in the fourth quarter, with
Jaeden McMillin nailing two and
Monica Redondo adding one more.
Wylie scored two three pointers in quick succession to give the Lopers a major scare, with Newman down by just three. Some late free throws saw the Lopers get a nail biting victory, 81-76.
Josey's 18 points tied her career high from earlier this week, while McMillin, Wylie and Perez all scored ten points or more. Wylie extened her blocking lead in the MIAA, as she is now up to 48 blocks in the season with a little under a month to go.
The Jets will host senior day next week Saturday, hosting Emporia State for a 1:30 PM tipoff.
