Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Latik Murphy has career night for Men's Basketball in high scoring game with RiverHawks

Murphy finishes with 30 points

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - In what was one of the higher scoring contests Men's Basketball had been in this season, Latik Murphy broke his career record in scoring against Northeastern State on Thursday.

Coming off a tough loss in the final minutes against Emporia State last weekend, the Jets went back on the road looking to get their second road win of the season.

It was a difficult start for Newman, who let in thirteen points in just the first few minutes. The RiverHawks had a clear advantage the entire way through, but not without Newman giving the home team some problems.

It took a while for him to get going, but once Latik Murphy started scoring he could not be stopped. He helped with a momentum swing at the end of the half where Newman showed that they could still cause problems no matter what the RiverHawks lead was.

Kaeson Fisher-Brown, Boston Stanton III and Sam Somerhalder combined for several early points at the beginning of the second half that gave NSU just a seven point lead after being down nearly twenty at one point.

Spurts of scoring occurred for the RiverHawks again and when they started scoring, it seemed like there were points where they could not be stopped.

Newman would bring the lead down to a manageable position with just ninety seconds remaining, after a Sam Somerhalder steal gave the Jets four points in just a few seconds.

It wouldn't be enough, as Newman fought hard in a game they fell behind too often.

Murphy's thirty points were the most in his Navy and Red career, with his previous high of twenty nine coming against York last season.

Somerhalder and Fisher-Brown also had decent outings, with each of them scoring sixteen points.

The Jets will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, when they head to Claremore to take on Rogers State on Saturday.
