WICHITA - It was a tough night for Women's Basketball, as they could not put together a consistent shooting night against Missouri Western. The Griffons had already clinched a share of the MIAA regular season crown, and they played suffocating defense against the Jets on homecoming night.
For about half of the first quarter, the Jets gave the Griffons a run for their money, as they lead three different times in the games early minutes.
Even with their bright start, the Jets seemed winded after a 12-0 scoring run from the Griffons. A
Monica Redondo three got Newman back in the game, but the deficit was continuing to grow.
Yet another 12-0 run happened for Missouri Western, not putting much doubt that they might try and run away with the game.
Amiya Josey would get plenty of good looks in the first half, and would finish with a team high eleven points at the end of the game.
Valeriya Lioukina opened the second half on a 4-0 scoring run herself, but despite the Jets best efforts the Griffons kept making their shots.
Juniors
Amy Smith and
Jillian Ostroe both shared some minutes in the fourth quarter, with Ostroe making just her second appearance of the season. Ostroe would even score a long jumper that put the crowd on its feet.
Josey fell just short of a double-double performance, finishing with eleven points and nine rebounds.
The Jets will conclude their season in Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday to take on Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m.
