Jets win competitive opening series against East Central

Jets showcase offense in the last 2 games; Bonython shines in Jet debut

PIEDMONT, Okla. - Jets traveled to Piedmont, OK to play a three game neutral series against East Central on Thursday and Friday. The last time the Jets and the Tigers faced each other, the Tigers won all four games. Despite last season's results, and with a roster filled with a lot of new faces, the Jets were ready to compete.

Game 1:

The Jets competed for nine innings in the first game of the season. They took the lead in the third inning with two runs from Gianna Navarro and Madi Canez. The game would be tied from the sixth inning until the ninth, when the Tigers hit a two run home run to win the game. Canez led the team in hitting, going three of four, scoring one run, and getting an RBI.

Game 2:

After a heartbreaking end of the first game, the Jets started the second game with a powerful three run first inning scored by Gianna Navarro, Madi Canez, and Malie Noda. That strong start was enough for the Jets to win their first game of the season with a final score of 3-1. Kinyon DeCorte, was a big part in the Jets defense. She pitched for all seven innings only allowing one run and seven hits. Freshman Hayley Bonython also helped the team earn their first victory with two RBIs in her first game as a Jet.

Game 3:

With the series on the line, the Jets and the Tigers would battle in another nine inning game. Knowing what worked in the previous game, the Jets started the game hot with a five run first inning. They would lead the game until the Tigers recorded a four run fourth inning to take the lead from the Jets.

Newman would respond with three runs in the next inning to keep the battle going. After a one run sixth inning, East Central would tie the game until the ninth inning. The ninth inning was a powerful showcase of offense from the Jets, scoring a series winning nine runs which would leave a final score of 20-11.

The Jets were led by seniors Anissa Ramos and Jackie Gold, and freshman's Hayley Bonython and Aspen Peterson. Ramos had an impressive three RBI, three runs, 5-7 hits game. Gold earned her first win after she pitched for five innings and only allowed three hits and one run. Bonython shined, again, with a first career home run, three runs, a team leading five RBIs, and going 3-6 from the plate. Peterson helped the team with three RBIs, two runs, and an outstanding 4-5 from the plate.

Next up:

The Jets will travel to Bentonville, Arkansas to play four games in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic later this week.
