WICHITA - The third and last game of the series hosted by Newman against Central Oklahoma came to an end on Sunday afternoon. Despite taking the lead on multiple occasions, the Jets fell just short of winning after the Bronchos were able to come back twice in the game.
Newman came back to action after not being able to get a win in the first two games of the series. Saturday's double header saw Central Oklahoma win the first game with a very hard to stop offense, and a very competitive second game where the ninth inning decided the winner.
The series finale started with both teams testing each other with a scoreless first inning.
The second inning saw the first lead of the game after Eli Wohl hit a single to third base that scored Hunter Brown.
The Bronchos responded immediately, scoring two runs to take the lead from the Jets in the top of the third inning.
The fourth inning went scoreless again with both teams leaving a runner on base.
Colby Wilson had a very strong performance throughout the six innings he pitched. Wilson kept the Jets in the game and was able to stop a very powerful offense. Colby stuck out five Bronchos and only allowed three runs to leave everything up to the offense.
The Jets offense followed Wilson's lead and delivered two great consecutive innings to tie the game up and take the lead for the second time. Jason Schneider doubled to left field in the bottom of the fifth to score Joe Kinneberg who had a great game himself hitting three out of five times at bat.
Shawn Marquis grounded out to second base to assist Dalton Smith into scoring the leading run.
Once again, the Bronchos responded right away and retook the lead in the top of the seventh.
The Jets made multiple efforts to tie the game again but were unsuccessful in doing so, giving the Bronchos the third and last win of the series.
The Jets will be back to action on Tuesday when they host Fort Hays State at 2:00 PM.
