Edmond, Okla. - Newman faced the No. 9 ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos in a MIAA doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Jets hadn't played any games in a week due to the cancelation of the midweek doubleheader against Southern Nazarene. The last game the Jets played was on March 23rd when they beat Missouri Western with an outstanding 7-1 final score.
The first game was a battle between both teams until the end. Despite the final score, The Jets had multiple opportunities to score and were in the game until the last couple of innings. The second game was decided in the fourth inning after the Bronchos showcased a very hard to stop offense.
Game 1:
The first game started with two scoreless innings. In those innings the Jets were able to get a couple of hits and left two runners on base.
After that, the Bronchos got their first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.
The Jets were unable to answer to the run in the following half-inning, giving the Bronchos another opportunity to increase their lead.
Central Oklahoma seized that opportunity and scored a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning aided by a home run. Following that, the Bronchos took advantage of their favorable momentum to score the final two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Four Jets players were able to get a hit in the game to give Newman a chance to score. A total of five runners were left on base but Newman wasn't able to score any runs.
Game 2:
The second game started the same way the first one did with three scoreless innings.
Hayley Bonython and Kayla Lopez were able to get their second hit in as many games but were unable to convert those hits into runs.
What looked like another long and close battle turned into a five inning game after the Bronchos scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning aided by two home runs.
The Jets were unable to respond to those runs in the top of the fifth inning resulting in the end of the second game.
Up Next:
The Jets will be back on Tuesday April 2nd in an away doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma.
