Alva, Okla. - Newman traveled to Oklahoma for the second time in four days to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in a non conference doubleheader.
The Jets were coming off of a tough matchup against the No. 9 Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Saturday afternoon, where the Jets were unable to score a run in both games despite the many attempts and opportunities they had to score throughout both games.
The first game saw the Jets trying multiple things but not being able to get their offense going while the Rangers had multiple opportunities to score more runs leaving ten runners on base. The second game was highlighted by another Jackie Gold outstanding performance and a low hitting percentage from both teams.
Game 1:
The first game started with a quick scoreless inning and a top of the second inning that saw the Jets leaving a total of two runners on base and a hit by Gianna Navarro to left field.
After that, a double and an error aided the Rangers to score a total of four runs in the next couple of innings.
Coach Gustafson tried different things in the bottom of the fourth inning by subbing in four different players. The Jets were able to stop the Rangers from scoring in that inning after two consecutive scoring innings from the home team.
Newman attempted to start a comeback in the top of the sixth after a triple from Lauren McNaught gave hope to the Jets. A ground out from Borja aided McNaught to score the first run for the Jets on the day.
Kinyon DeCorte came into the game in the sixth inning. DeCorte didn't allow any hits or runs, and had a strike out in the full inning that she pitched.
Game 2:
The second game went by very fast due to the low batting average from both teams.
The Rangers were only able to score two runs in the game, with the first one coming in the bottom of the second inning after a single, and the second one coming in the bottom of the fifth from a single to left field.
Jackie Gold had a lot to do with the low amount of hits the Rangers had through the game. Gold accumulated a total of seven strikeouts and only allowed three hits and two runs in the six innings that she pitched.
Malie Noda and Travia Smith were able to get a hit but weren't able to transform those hits into runs.
Up Next:
The Jets will be back in action on Friday and Saturday April 5th and 6th in two away MIAA doubleheaders in Missouri.
