Game Recap: Softball |

Softball dominates game 1 and struggles in game 2 in split with Lincoln

Jefferson City, Mo. -The Jets traveled to Missouri to play the Blue Tigers in a conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon. After a very powerful performance in the first game, and not allowing a single run, the Jets were unable to stop the Blue Tigers offense in game two resulting in an overall split result.

Newman was coming off of a frustrating matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma State, staying very close in both games but not being able to get the offense going in either game. Jackie Gold's great performance kept the Jets within two runs in game two but that wasn't enough to take the game from the Rangers.

Game 1:

The first game started with four scoreless innings caused by a great performance from Sophomore Kinyon DeCorte, who played the whole game.

The Jets left a total of six runners on base in the first four innings before being able to score in the fifth.

The fifth inning was very positive for the Jets, and it would end up deciding the winner of the game. Newman was able to score three runs followed by two fielding errors, a double from Madi Canez to left field that scored two runners, and a double from AJ Borja to left field as well that scored another run.

The score stayed the same until the end of the game leaving a final 0-3 score.

The Jets defense was led by Kinyon DeCorte who had a brilliant performance, only allowing two hits, not allowing any runs, and having a total of two strikeouts. DeCorte claimed her fourth win of the season.

Game 2:

The Blue Tigers started the second game scoring their first run of the day after a single to right center. The Jets were unable to respond in the following inning and would see how Lincoln scored four more runs in the bottom of the second.

After the second inning, a new pitcher came in for the Jets. Jackie Gold tried to stop the bleeding in 1.1 innings, but the Blue Tigers offense was very hard to stop in the second game even for Gold.

Lincoln scored four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it very hard for the Jets to even think of a comeback.

Newman wasn't able to answer the runs in the top of the fourth and the Blue Tigers took advantage of their momentum and scored a couple more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

A ground out to first base from Rylee Gresham saw the Jets score their only run in the game in the top of the fifth.

The game ended in the fifth inning.

Up Next:

The Jets will be back in action on Saturday April 6th in a MIAA doubleheader at Central Missouri with game one starting at 12:00 PM.
