Jets celebrate Senior Day with good moments in tough matchup against #4 Rogers State

WICHITA - Softball celebrated their six Seniors in the last home doubleheader of the season against the Rogers State Hillcats in a moving ceremony before Game 1. Newman faced one of the toughest opponents in the country on what was a windy Saturday afternoon. Both games ended early due to the offensive power of the visiting team, but both games had completely different stories. Game 1 was dominated by Rogers State since the top of the second inning, while Game 2 wasn't decided until the top of the fourth and even had the Jets tie the game at one point.

The last time the Jets were out was on Friday afternoon when they split with Northeastern State after a very dominant Game 1 where the Jets scored eight unanswered runs to win the game. Hayley Bonython shined, once again, adding her sixth home run of the season.

Game 1:
After a scoreless first inning, the Hillcats got things going on offense and scored four unanswered runs in the second inning aided by two singles to center field.

A total of four home runs between the third and the fourth inning from the Hillcats made the difference grow to twelve runs and made it very hard for the Jets to think of a comeback.

Newman's festive spirit led them to a fun and entertaining fifth inning where they were able to get four hits and add a run after Madi Canez singled to right center to score Lauren McNaught

The Jets were able to get a total of six runners on base but were not able to score any more after McNaught.

Game 2:
Senior Jackie Gold started in Game 2 in what was her last career home game as a Jet. Gold had a good performance and added three more strikeouts to her tally.

The Hillcats started the game scoring one run off of a single to left field but were unable to score any more, leaving two runners on base.

After two more runs in the top of the second from the Hillcats, the Jets responded scoring three runs off of another single from Madi Canez and a single from Senior Anissa Ramos who had a very positive day in her last home game as a Jet.

The third inning went scoreless in what was a close and competitive matchup. Until the ninth inning.

Rogers State added three more home runs and a double to score nine more runs and take the lead once again.

The game ended in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Jets leaving two runners on base.
