Kearney, Neb. -Newman traveled to Nebraska to play the Lopers in a conference matchup. The Jets blew up game one scoring ten runs in the top of the fourth inning to end the game early. The second game was a battle between both teams, with the Lopers taking the win despite some great efforts from the Jets to come back.
Softball was coming back after two comeback wins to sweep the William Jewell Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon. The Jets scored a total of seven runs in the last two innings of game one to complete a three run deficit comeback. Game two was a different story with the Jets being behind in the scoreboard for most of the game, but saving the best for last, scoring four runs in the seventh inning to take the win.
Game 1:
Both teams started the first game slow on offense recording three scoreless innings. After that, the Jets turned up their offense to score an outstanding ten runs in the top of the fourth inning and still leaving two runners on base.
The Jets were able to get a total of six hits including five singles and a double down the left field line from
Lauren Kwak that scored
Kayla Lopez and
Malie Noda to wrap up the inning and basically the game.
Both Lopez and Noda were able to score two runs in the same inning.
Jackie Gold won her tenth game of the season to move to an overall 10-10. Gold only allowed two runs and five hits and accumulated four strikeouts in the five innings that she pitched. Jackie has a total of eighty strikeouts in the season and has already won more games than she did last year.
The Lopers were unable to bring the Jets lead down to seven to keep the game going, and saw the game finish in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Game 2:
After an amusing end to the first game, the second game started with the home team scoring three runs to try to make a statement.
Newman answered with two runs after a single from
Gianna Navarro and
Anissa Ramos scored
Malie Noda and Navarro herself to keep the Jets within a run.
A single down the right field line from
Rylee Gresham scored
Malie Noda, again, to tie the game 3-3.
The Lopers answered scoring three runs to regain the lead in the bottom of the third. After that, they used their momentum to add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Newman started the comeback in the fifth inning scoring two runs off of a double from
Hayley Bonython and another single from
Rylee Gresham. Following that, the Jets got within one run once again after scoring two more runs from an error and a walk. The Jets were able to get the bases loaded and left the tying and the leading run on base.
The Lopers got away from the top of the fifth inning and were able to add three more runs to distance themselves enough to win the game.
Both
Kinyon DeCorte and
Jackie Gold pitched for an inning, only alowed two hits and were able to get a strikeout.
