TOPEKA, Kan.- The Jets traveled to Topeka to take on No.21 ranked Washburn for their second MIAA contest of the season. The Jets are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Emporia State on Friday. Newman came in looking for their first MIAA win of the season, but fell short to the talented squad of Washburn. The Jets dropped the contest, 3-0.
How It Happened:
- In the first half, the Ichabods won the possession battle as they stayed on the offensive end for the majority of the half. The Jets defense was impressive in the first half, keeping the Ichabods off the score sheet early in the half. In the 12th minute, Washburn had a huge chance to score with a breakaway three on one opportunity, but Jets goalkeeper Carla Apodaca made an impressive save to keep the score at 0-0. The Ichabods had seven chances from the corner and eight shots in the half, but the Jets defense held tight and didn't break down to the Ichabods offense until the 37th minute. In the 37th minute the Ichabods scored. Apodaca was able to save the first shot, but couldn't quite hold onto the ball which allowed Washburn to poke back in the deflection to get on the board. Washburn took the lead 1-0 with eight minutes left to play in the first half and would keep the one goal lead heading into the half.
- Early in the second half the Ichabods were winning the posession article. In the 63rd minute, Apodaca was faced with a one on one situation with a Washburn attacker and was able to make a great save to keep the deficit at just one. With 12 minutes left the Jets had some momentum going. Jalyn McClean had a great opportunity to find the back of the net, but the Ichabods goalkeeper was able to make a save. In the 80th minute, the Jets were awarded a free kick in a dangerous field position. Keilann Heath took the free kick for the Jets, but her shot was just over the cross bar. Within the last ten minutes of play, the Ichabods were able to add two more goals to extend their lead to three and close the game out. The Jets fell 3-0.

- Apodaca recorded a season high 11 saves.
- McClean led the Jets with two shots, both on goal.
- Four Jets played 90 minutes.
The Jets are back home on October 4th to host Missouri Western at 7 PM.
