Jets down Lions with second half comeback

Lioukina scores 19 in win against Missouri Southern

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Missouri Southern to wrap up the weekend slate. Against the Lions, the Jets completed the second half comeback to take the win 64-61.

How it Happened:
-The opening quarter was a back and forth battle. The Jets hopped out to a 4-1 lead after buckets by Paige Craft and Jaeden McMillin. The Lions offense then started to connect and take the lead at 7-6. McMillin was quick to answer to give the Jets the lead back, but the Lions answered on the next possession. Layla Pierce then connected with a three to give the Jets the 11-9 lead with 4:28 left to play. The Lions continued to keep pace with the Jets offense, holding within a few points the entirety of the quarter. With just a minute left, the Lions had taken back the lead at 18-13. Valeriya Lioukina connected with an and-one opportunity with 51 seconds left in the quarter to cut the Lions lead to just two points. To end the quarter, the Lions earned a trip to the free throw line where they extended their lead back to four. With 27 seconds left, Craft connected with a single free throw to end the quarter trailing 20-17. 
-To start the second quarter, the Lions started with an 11-0 run to take the score to 31-17. The Jets finally stopped this run with 4:34 to go with free throws by McMillin. With a little over two minutes to play, the Lions hit a three to extend their lead even more but Brooklyn Love answered with a three of her own to keep the Jets within striking distance. More free throws by the Lions allowed them to keep the steady lead. Craft scored her seventh point of the night to cut the Lions lead to 12 with over a minute left in the half. However, the Lions were able to connect on their last offensive possession of the half to take their lead to 38-24 at half. Craft led the Jets with seven points in the half . McMillin tallied six points in the and Lioukina scored five. Ryan Franklin for the Lions scored 19 points in the half. 
- The Jets came out of the halftime break with a new energy and were able to cut the deficit to just six after three pointers by Saige Grampsas and  Craft and then a basket by Lioukina. Craft then found McMillin underneath the basket for an easy layup to make the score 40-36 with just over six minutes to play in the third quarter. The Lions finally scored their first point of the quarter after connecting with one free throw that stopped the Jets 12-2 run. After the free throw by the Lions, Dani William connected with a three that cut the deficit to just two points. Delainey Wylie joined in on the Jets hot shooting, hitting a corner three to take the lead from the Lions at 42-41 with just over four minutes to play in the third quarter. This forced the Lions to take their first timeout of the game. After the timeout, the Lions earned two free throws connecting with both to tie the game at 42 all. McMillin then scored on the next possession to put the Jets back on top. Grampsas hit her second three-pointer of the game to extend the Jets lead to four. Lioukina then earned a trip the the free throw line and connected with both to give the Jets at 49-43 lead with 1:31 to play in the quarter. To end the quarter, the Lions cut the Jets lead to five at 50-45. 
-McMillin hit her 13th point of the game to start the final quarter with a three, but the Lions answered with a basket to keep the game within six points. Williams hit two free throws on the next Jets possession to put their lead to 55-47 with nine minutes to play. MSSU cut the deficit to four with 7:31 to play, but the next possession Lioukina answered with a strong basket to keep the Jets lead at six. The Lions were able to cut the deficit to one point after a three-pointer, making it 57-56 with just under six minutes left. Lioukna connected with her 16th point to put the Jets up five with 3:21 to play. The Lions earned more free throws to take the game to 61-58 still in favor of the Jets. The Jets scored with 52 seconds left with a fast break layup by Lioukina to put Newman up 63-58. The Lions earned another trip to the line with 43 seconds to cut the game to three. The Jets then turned the ball over in the back court, fouling on the turnover to give the Lions free throws, where they connected with one to make it a two-point game with 30 seconds left. The Lions then fouled Lioukina on the Jets next offensive posession, to send her to the line with 11 seconds left. Lioukina connected with one of two to put the Jets up three with 11 seconds left. The Lions were unable to score on their last possession of the game. The Jets took the win, 64-61. 

Player Notes:
-Lioukina led the Jets with 19 points. 
- McMillin scored 13 points. 
- Craft added 12 points and three assists. 
- Grampsas scored six, added four assists, and pulled down nine rebounds. 

The Jets hit the road next week to face the Jennies and Ichabods.
