WICHITA- The Jets hosted Arkansas-Fort Smith for their second match up of the year. Earlier this season, the Jets fell short to the Lions on the road. This time out, the Jets fell 96-54.
How it Happened:
- The Jets and Lions started the first quarter trading off scores.
Valeriya Lioukina scored four of the first six Jets points.
Jaeden McMillin then added her fourth point to make it 9-8 in favor of the Lions. After the points from McMillin, the Lions went on an 8-0 run to take the lead 17-8.
Brooklyn Love connected with a basket to stop the Lions run and cut the deficit to seven. The Lions answered with five straight points which then caused the Jets to take a timeout with 2:30 left in the quarter, trailing 22-10. The Lions ended up taking the first quarter 28-10 after shooting 55.6% from the field and 57% from the three.
-To start the second quarter, McMillin earned her way to the free throw line to cut the score to 28-12. However, the Lions hot shooting continued as they hit another three to extend their lead. Another basket by the Lions forced the Jets to take an early timeout in the quarter, with eight minutes remaining. A few minutes later, McMillin added her eleventh point to make the score 37-19. With under two minutes left to play, the Jets put together a 7-0 run to cut the Lions lead to 41-26. At the end of the first twenty minutes of play, the Lions had the lead 46-26.
- Out of the halftime break, the Lions and Jets traded off scores. McMillin was first to score with a layup, then the Lions went on a short 4-0 run. This was then followed by a Jets 7-0 run, with
Paige Craft scoring five of those seven, to make it 53-37 heading into the first media break of the third quarter. After the media break, McMillin scored her 15th point to cut the deficit to just 14 points with four minutes left in the quarter. A three pointer by
Dani Williams kept the Jets fighting with under two minutes to play, but the Lions never allowed the Jets to cut the double-digit deficit. Heading into the final quarter, the Jets trailed 68-44.
