JOPLIN, Mo.- Volleyball traveled to face Missouri Southern to kick off their weekend MIAA slate. Against the Lions, the Jets fell 3-0.
How it Happened:
- The Jets opened set one with early momentum against Missouri Southern.
Sky Miller and
Hannah Tymitz were active at the net, combining for several kills with
Madalyn Hoot running the offense efficiently.
Brooklyn Lane added a service ace and a well-timed kill to help push Newman ahead in the early going. The Jets led as late as 20–18, thanks to key contributions from
Isabella Lamb. However, Missouri Southern mounted a late comeback, stringing together kills and taking advantage of a few Newman attack errors. Despite battling hard throughout the set, the Jets fell short in set one, 25-22.
- Newman came out strong in Set Two, jumping to a 7–0 lead behind the offenve with kills by Miller, Tymitz, and
Nicole Soto. The Jets held the momentum early, until the Lions were able to battle back to even the score at 17. The Jets would be unable to close the set out, allowing the Lions to take set two, 25-20.
- The Jets kept pace early in set three with strong swings from Miller and Tymitz, and a service ace by Hoot helped the Jets close the gap midway through. Lamb added key kills as Newman fought to stay in it. However, Missouri Southern pulled away late, capitalizing on a few Jet errors and finishing the set on a 6–1 run. Despite the effort, Newman dropped the third set 25–17, as Missouri Southern completed the sweep.

- Tymitz led the way with 12 kills.
- Hoot tallied 29 assists through three sets.
