MIAA releases Women’s Basketball preseason coaches and media poll

Newman takes 14th place in both polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its preseason rankings for the 2025-26 women's basketball season. Fort Hays State topped the coaches poll, while Pittsburg State took the top spot in the media poll. Newman took the 14th spot in both the media and coaches polls.

Coach Amy Briggs is entering into her third season as head coach of the Jets. Last year, the Jets posted a 7-21 overall record with two wins in MIAA play. The Jets took their two wins in conference play against Rogers State and Missouri Southern. Newman returns four seniors including Amaya Perez, Valeriya Lioukina, Paige Craft, and Monica Redondo. Junior, Jaeden McMillin also returns as the Jets leading scorer and leading rebounder. McMillin posted a total of 335 points, averaging 12.7 points per game with 6.6 rebounds per game. Craft returns as the second leading scorer, with 8.1 points per game. Craft also led the Jets in assists, with 64 total on the year. 

The Jets will kick off their season with an exhibition game at Wichita State on October 29th. Then, Newman will travel to the MIAA/GAC crossover in Fort Smith, Arkansas to face Southern Arkansas and Arkansas Monticello. The Jets will then go on an eight game home stand. First against Oklahoma Christian, then the Jets will host the Newman Classic on November 21st and 22nd against William Jewell and Eastern New Mexico. The Jets will then finish out November against Central Christian. Conference play will open on December fourth, where the Jets will host Northeastern State on December 4th followed by Arkansas- Fort Smith on December 6th. The Jets will wrap up their eight game home stand with Kansas Christian on December 13th and McPherson College on December 16th. Newman will wrap up 2025 at Rockhurst on December 18th. To kick off 2026, the Jets host Rogers State and Central Oklahoma. Then, Newman will face their first conference road opponents at Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern. The following week, Newman returns home to face the Jennies and Ichabods. A four game road stint will follow this, facing Fort Smith, Northeastern State, Central Oklahoma, and Rogers State. On February 5th, Newman will face Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State for their second match up of the year, at Fugate Gymnasium. To finish off February, the Jets hit a three game road stint and then finish up regular season play against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western on February 26th and 28th. The MIAA Conference Tournament is set for March 4th-8th at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri.
