PITTSBURG- Newman Volleyball traveled to Pittsburg State on Tuesday night, where the Gorillas claimed a 3–0 victory.
How it Happened:
The Jets hung tough early in the opening set, staying within striking distance at 12–10 after a Hannah Tymitz kill. From there, Pittsburg State found its rhythm, using a strong run to create separation. Despite Newman's early fight, the Gorillas closed the frame on a dominant stretch to take the set 25–13 and a 1–0 lead.
Pittsburg State carried that momentum into the second set, building an early cushion while the Jets worked to find rhythm offensively. Newman remained within range midway through, trailing 9–6 after a pair of Sky Miller kills and a Gorilla attack error. However, another Pittsburg State scoring surge extended the lead, and the Gorillas went on to secure the second set 25–13 to move ahead 2–0.
Newman got off to a strong start in the third, taking a 4–2 lead behind a Tymitz service ace. The Gorillas responded with a 7–0 run that shifted momentum for good. Despite steady effort from the Jets, Pittsburg State's balanced attack and solid defense proved too much to overcome, as the Gorillas closed out the set 25–10 and the match 3–0.
