No. 3 Jets fall to No. 2 Rogers State in penalty kicks in GAC/MIAA Semifinals

HAYS, Kan.- The No. 3 seeded Jets traveled to Fort Hays State for the GAC/MIAA Semifinals against No. 2 seeded Rogers State. The Jets and Hillcats battled to a 2-2 end of regulation score. Penalty kicks were the ultimate decider, where the Jets  would fall short, 2(0)-2(2). 

How it Happened: 
- Newman and Rogers State played even in the first 20 minutes of play, with both teams recording a few shots to kick off play. The Hillcats would be the first to find the back of the net. In the 22nd minute, a goal by Alex Fletcher gave the Hillcats an early 1-0 edge. Cameron Schroder would have a look on goal in the 29th minute, but the Hillcats goalkeeper would save the shot. Jonathan Garcia would also record a shot on target in the half, but the ball was saved. The Jets headed into the halftime break, trailing 1-0. 
- Out of the half, Gustavo Dias Juliani had a quick look on goal, but again the Hillcats goalkeeper made the save. In the 55th minute, Daichi Saito found the equalizer to make it 1-1. Gustavo Dias Juliani was credited with the assist to Saito. Ten minutes later, the Hillcats broke the tie with their second goal. Grayson Horsley was the Hillcat who found the back of the net. The Jets continued to battle. Cameron Schroder would put away the Jets second goal in the 72nd minute to make it 2-2. The Jets had two shots at the goal in the final ten minutes of play, but could not find the game winner. Newman and Rogers State ended the 90 minutes of regulation tied 2-2, forcing overtime. 
- In the first overtime, there was just one shot recorded in the ten minutes of play which led to the second overtime. In the second overtime, Kei Nagakura had a look on goal, but the ball was saved. RSU put pressure on the Jets defense in the final three minutes of the second overtime with a handful of looks at the net, but the Jets held strong. The game remained tied at the conclusion of two overtime periods, forcing the game into penalty kicks. The Jets were unable to connect on their four penalty kick tries, resulting in Rogers State advancing to the GAC/MIAA Finals. 

- The final result, Newman 2(0), Rogers State 2(2).

- Schroder added his third goal of the season. 
- Saito netted his second goal of the year. 
- Gustavo Dias Juliani tacked on his seventh assist.
