Jets win match-up against Arkansas Tech

JOPLIN, Mo.- Newman Men's Basketball continued play in the MIAA/GAC Challenge hosted by Missouri Southern. The Jets faced Arkansas Tech. Newman took the matchup, 95-87.  
 
How it Happened: 
- The Jets started strong, winning the tip-off, soon followed by two layups from Sam Somerhalder. ATU followed quickly, but a three by Brandon Wilson would bring the Jets back within one point. The teams would go back and forth with points until a 5-point run by ATU would give them a 14-20 lead. ATU would continue their offensive run to take their lead to 32-20, forcing a Newman timeout. Jayden Schoen had 11 points in the first half, including going 5-5 from the free-throw line. Bringing the deficit to 1 point, the Jets trailed at the half 51-52. 

- After the half, the Jets came out fighting, taking the lead to 63-59 in the first five minutes of play. Jacob Joe put up a three, along with layups by Wilson and Thatcher McClure, extending the Jets' lead to 11 points. A fast break layup and free throw by McClure, a three-pointer by Kobe Freeman, continued the scoring by the Jets. The Jets were able to withstand an Arkansas Tech push to keep the lead by six points. A Somerhalder jumper was good to take the Jets out to an eight-point lead. The Jets took the matchup against Arkansas Tech 95-87.
 
Player Notes:  
- Brandon Wilson led the Jets with 17 points and eight rebounds.  
- Jacob Joe tallied 13 points with eight assists.  
- Thatcher McClure put up 14 points.  
 
The Jets are back in action for their home opener at 7:30 PM in Fugate Gymnasium, facing Barclay College for Military Appreciation Night.
