Women's Basketball downs Eagles in home opener

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Oklahoma Christian for their home opener. The Jets would defeat the Eagles in their home opener, 66-64. 

How it Happened:
- Valeriya Lioukina scored the first bucket of the game, but Oklahoma Christian quickly answered with one of their own. The Jets and Eagles traded baskets throughout the opening quarter, with neither team gaining much separation early on. The Eagles eventually stretched their lead to four points at the three-minute mark and pushed it to 14-9 with under 30 seconds remaining. Monica Redondo capitalized on the Jets final possession of the quarter, sinking a jumper to cut the deficit to three. Oklahoma Christian ended the period on top, 14-11.
- Coming out of the quarter break, the Eagles opened with a 5-0 run. Free throws from Alexis Martin halted the surge, and a bucket by Jaeden McMillin trimmed the deficit to four with six minutes left in the half. Oklahoma Christian answered with another 5-0 run to push its lead to 24-15. Jolene Ramiro knocked down two free throws to bring it back to a seven-point game, and a three-pointer from Delainey Wylie later cut the margin to 26-20 with under four minutes remaining. The Eagles responded with a 4-0 run to extend their lead to nine with 2:30 to play, but Wylie again stopped the momentum at the line. OC closed the half with two free throws of its own and took a 32–23 lead into the break.Wylie led the Jets in the first half with five points. The Jets shot 30% from the field, while the Eagles connected on 52%.
- To open the third quarter, Craft added her fifth point of the game, and Jaeden McMillin followed with four straight to trim the Jets deficit to 32-29. The Eagles scored at the six-minute mark, but Craft answered with another basket to keep the margin at three. An 8-0 OC run later stretched the lead to nine before Redondo halted the surge with a three-pointer. The Jets continued to battle throughout the quarter, but after three periods Newman trailed 48-39.
- The Jets and Eagles traded baskets through the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, allowing Oklahoma Christian to keep its lead. An and-one conversion by Wylie sparked the Jets' offense, cutting the margin to eight with under five minutes remaining. Moments later, Wylie buried a three to bring Newman within six at 57-51. The Jets kept the pressure on. Four straight points from McMillin trimmed the deficit to four with three minutes to play, and she stayed hot, knocking down a three-pointer to make it a one-point game, 60-59. The clutch shot also marked her 18th point of the night. The Eagles responded with a free throw to push the lead to 61–59. Craft then earned a trip to the line, sinking a free throw to make it a one-point game with 1:22 left. After an OC basket extended the lead to three, McMillin answered with a layup to pull Newman back within one with 29 seconds remaining.A free throw on the other end gave OC a two-point edge with 17 seconds left, but McMillin delivered again, converting a layup plus the foul to give the Jets a 65-64 lead with just ten seconds remaining. Newman came up with a crucial defensive stop and put McMillin back on the line, where she extended the lead to 66–64 with four seconds to go. One final defensive stand sealed it.

Newman completed the comeback and defeated Oklahoma Christian, 66–64.

Player Notes: 
- McMillin led the Jets with 24 points. 
- Wylie scored 11 points going 3-4 from the field and added four rebounds.
- Craft and Lioukina both tallied ten points a piece. 

The Jets are back home this weekend to host the Newman Classic. The Jets will play William Jewell on Friday at 1 PM, followed by a match up against Eastern New Mexico on Saturday at 1 PM.
