WICHITA- The Jets kicked off the Newman Classic with a matchup against GLVC opponent, William Jewell. The Jets defeated the Cardinals, 65-54.
How it Happened:
- Newman opened the game with a 4-0 run on early buckets from
Paige Craft and
Jaeden McMillin. William Jewell got on the board just before the seven-minute mark. At the media timeout, the Jets led 6-2. The Cardinals hit a three to pull within one before
Jolene Ramiro answered to make it 8-5. Another WJC three tied the game at 8-8, where the quarter ultimately ended, as both teams shot around 20% from the field.
- Out of the break, McMillin sparked a 5-0 run to give the Jets a 13-8 lead. William Jewell responded with six straight points to take a 14-13 advantage, prompting a Newman timeout.
Dani Williams scored out of the timeout to regain the lead, but a Cardinals three put WJC back on top. Newman answered with a McMillin bucket and a free throw from
Delainey Wylie to edge ahead 18-17. McMillin later converted an and-one to make it 21–17. The Cardinals closed the half strong, trimming the Jets' lead to 26–25. McMillin led all scorers at the break with 12 points.
- Newman opened the half on a 6–0 run to take a 32-25 lead. WJC cut the margin to four, but a three from
Monica Redondo pushed the lead back to seven. Four free throws from Williams and McMillin extended the advantage into double digits.
Charlize Williams added her first basket to make it 43-31. A three from
Alexis Martin and another score by McMillin stretched the lead to 16. McMillin reached 20 points as the Jets entered the fourth up 52-35.
- Williams and
Valeriya Lioukina added early baskets to maintain the Jets' control. A
Delainey Wylie three pushed the lead to 59-44 with under six minutes remaining. William Jewell pulled within ten in the final minute, but Newman held strong to secure the 65-54 victory.

- McMillin led with 23 points, and six rebounds.
- Craft scored ten with three assists and four rebounds.
- Martin went 2-5 from behind the arc, scoring eight total points.
Newman is back tomorrow for their second and final game of the Newman Classic against Eastern New Mexico at 1 PM.
