SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Men's and Women's Tennis traveled to Drury for a late night match up. The Jets both fell to the Panthers. The Men's squad dropped the match, 5-2 and the Women's squad dropped a close match at 4-3.
Men's Tennis: NU 2, DU 5
The Jets were unable to take the doubles point, after dropping the three matches giving Drury the 1-0 early lead. The Panthers were able to take the No. 1 singles point. Then
Pavlo Vysotin brought in the Jets first point in the No. 2 singles post with a 6-2 win in both sets to make it a 2-1 match, with Drury up just one point. The Panthers were then able to take the No. 3 and No. 4 singles giving the Panthers four points, enough to take the win.
Andrea Torrini brought in a Jets win at the No. 5 spot after winning the second set in a tie break, 7(7)-6(3) and winning the tiebreak 10-8. The Panthers rounded out their lineup with a win at the sixth spot. The Panthers took the win 5-2.
Women's Tennis: NU 3, DU 4
Dana Issabayeva and
Luna Feillon were able to win their doubles match at the No. 3 spot with a 6-2 win. However, this was the only Jets doubles pair that was able to snag a win. This gave Drury the early 1-0 lead. The Jets picked up their first win with
Nicole Bono taking the win at 7(7)-6(5) and 6-2. Feillon battled in her match, dropping the first set but dominating in the second set at 6-0 to force a third set. In the third set, Feillon secured the win at 6-4. Then,
Mariana Jimenez took her match with ease at 6-2 in both sets. Though the Jets took three singles wins, the Panthers were able to take the match at 4-3.
The Jets are back in action on February 28th and March 1st where they will play Rockhurst and Augustana in Kansas City.
