TOPEKA, Kan. - The Jets traveled to Topeka to compete in the Washburn Tournament. On day one of play, the Jets faced Rockhurst and Minnesota Crookston. The Jets first faced Rockhurst where they battled out an 11 inning win, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to secure the 4-3 win. The Jets then faced Crookston where they lost a heartbreaker at 5-4.
vs. Rockhurst: NU 4 , RU 3
How it Happened:
- The Jets and the Hawks were held scoreless through the first two innings of play. Rockhurst was first to score with two runs in the top of the third inning to make it 2-0. The Jets were quick to respond in the bottom half of the inning. A single by
Hannah Nordby kicked off the inning.
Kayla Lopez then reached base by a walk that pushed Nordby to second. A single by
Lani Dryden advanced Nordby and Lopez to second and third. A walk taken by
Gianna Navarro scored the Jets first run. Then, an error by the Rockhurst defense allowed Lopez and Dryden to score, giving the Jets the 3-2 lead.
- In the top of the fourth inning, the Hawks were able to tie the game at 3-3. The Jets had a chance to retake the lead in the fourth inning, but the Hawks forced the Jets to leave three runners on base. The Jets defense held strong in the top of the fifth, ending the inning with two Hawks left on base. The Rockhurst defense continued to hold strong as well, holding the Jets scoreless. Both teams would hold each other scoreless through six total innings until the 11th inning, when a single by
Hayley Bonython pushed
Alex Schreiner to third base. Then Nordby hit a walk-off single through the right side, pushing Schreiner across the plate for a 4-3 win.
Player Notes:
- Nordby led the Jets at the plate, going 3-5 from the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Nordby hit the walk-off single to secure the Jets win.
- Borja added two hits with four at bats with a double.

Paola Zamacona earned the win in the circle for the Jets. Zamazona pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just two hits, striking out four batters and allowing 0 runs.
vs. Minnesota Crookston: NU 4, MCU 5
How it Happened:
- The Jets and Eagles were scoreless through the first inning. The Eagles were first to score in the bottom of the second inning, scoring off of a double that made it a 1-0 game. In the top of the third inning,
Aspen Peterson singled to start the inning.
Malie Noda then doubled to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Then,
AJ Borja hit a big time triple to left field to push Noda across the plate and take the 2-1 lead for the Jets. Later, a single by Navarro scored Borja giving the Jets the 3-1 lead.
- Neither team was able to score until the bottom of the sixth inning when UMC was able to tie it up at four all after three hits put in three runs. In the top of the seventh inning, Borja and Dryden both reached base, putting the Jets in scoring position. Though the Jets were in great position to score, the Jets offense couldn't push them across the plate. The game was still tied 4-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Jets walked the first batter. The next batter then hit a triple that pushed the winning run across the plate for the Eagles. The Eagles would take the win at 5-4.

- Borja led the Jets with two hits in her three at bats with two RBIs and one run scored.
- Noda added two hits on three at bats with one RBI and two runs scored.
The Jets are back tomorrow at 11:30 AM to face Minot State and 3:30 PM to face Missouri S&T to wrap up the Washburn Tournament.
