Jets down the Bearcats in Maryville

Men's Basketball tops Bearcats on the road

MARYVILLE, Mo.- The Jets faced Northwest Missouri on the road for the first time this season. Before the matchup, the Jets were sitting at the No.10 seed in the KPI rankings for the MIAA. The top ten teams earn a spot in the MIAA basketball tournament. Against the Bearcats, the Jets took the win 71-59. 

How it Happened:
- Boston Stanton III started off the Jets with two free throws to take the early 2-0 lead. The Bearcats were quick to respond, scoring on the next possession. The next bucket came at the 16:30 mark with a dunk by Thatcher McClure. At the 16 minute mark, the Bearcats took the lad from the Jets with a three-pointer. Stanton III retook the Jets lead with a three of his own on the next possession. The Bearcats were able to connect with a three to take the 9-7 lead on the next play. Stanton then tied the game at 9-9 with a steal and layup for his seventh point. The Jets then went on a 6-0 run to take the 15-9 lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the half. The Bearcats then went on their own 6-0 run to tie the game at 17 all with 7:30 minutes to play. Aaron Murphy stopped the Bearcats run with his eighth point to take the two point lead. Murphy then connected again to complete a 4-0 run to take the 21-17 lead. NW Missouri brought the game back within two points at 21-19 with under six to play. Jordan Glenn-Hawkins then connected with a three to take the five point lead. Stanton III followed this three with his ninth point to take the Jets out to a seven point lead. McClure added to this Jets run with a three of his own to take the double-digit lead with just over three minutes in the half. McClure kept the Jets offense rolling, continuing the run with another three to make it 32-19 for their biggest lead. The Bearcats finally stopped the 11-0 run with a three pointer to make it a ten point game with under two to go. Deadric Fikes scored his first points of the night to give the Jets a 12 point lead. To end the half, Devin Walker scored his first points to push the Jets to a 36-23 lead. Murphy led the Jets with ten points in the half. Stanton III added nine points. As a team the Jets shot 40% from the field and from behind the arc. The Jets out rebounded the Bearcats 25-15. 
- Glenn-Hawkins was first to score out of the halftime break taking the Jets to a 38-25 lead. The Bearcats then scored a few possessions late to keep within 11 points. Glenn-Hawkins scored again to put it back to a 13 point lead for the Jets. The Bearcats continued to respond with their offense. Glenn-Hawkins continued to roll for the Jets, scoring his third basket of the second half to take the 42-29 lead. A minute later, Glenn-Hawkins connected again, hitting  a three-pointer to make it a 14 point lead for the Jets and scoring his 12th point. The Bearcats were holding tight with the Jets, responding on their offensive end. A bucket by Sam Somerhalder gave the Jets a 47-33 lead heading into the media break. With a 12-2 run, the Bearcats had chipped away at the Jets lead, bringing them within six points. Murphy scored his 12th point to put the Jets up seven with under nine minutes to go. The Jets and Bearcats continued the back-and-forth scoring. With five minutes left, Murphy scored a jumper for the Jets to take the lead out to 57-49. The Jets put together a few defensive stops in a row that led to a Murphy and-one that gave the Jets an 11-point lead with under four to play. At the two minute mark, the Bearcats earned a trip to the free throw line where they connected with one. Somerhalder then put the Jets back up by 11 points after two free throws on the next possession. With under two to play, the Jets went on a 4-0 run to take the lead out to 68-54. The Jets were able to close out the game at the free throw line and win with the final score 71-59. 

Player Notes: 
- Murphy led the Jets with 17 points and nine rebounds. 
- Glenn-Hawkins scored 16 points with seven boards.
- Stanton III scored 14 points.
-  McClure added ten points. 

The Jets finish out the regular season on the road against Missouri Western at 3:30 PM.
