KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Men's and Women's Tennis traveled to Kansas City to face Rockhurst. The Jets both fell 6-1 to the Hawks.
Men's Tennis:
The Hawks stole the doubles point with 6-0 and 6-2 wins at the No.1 and No. 2 spot.
Genaro Dagotto and
Tikhon Sorokin took the win at the No. 3 for the Jets. However, the two wins gave the Hawks the 1-0 match lead heading into singles. The Hawks extended their lead to 2-0 after taking the win at the No.4 singles spot. The Hawks were able to take the No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles match that clinched the team match for the Hawks, giving them the 5-1 lead.
Nicolo Lippolis gave the Jets their only point of the match, taking both his sets at 6-4. The Hawks took the match with a final score of 6-1.
Women's Tennis:
The Hawks were able to take the doubles point winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.
Mariana Jimenez and
Ani Zeikidze were able to win their doubles match at the No.1, but it wasn't enough to take the point. Heading into singles the Hawks had the 1-0 lead. The Hawks were able to take the No. 5 and No. 6 singles match to make it 3-0. Then, at the No.1 spot the Hawks clinched the match to give them the 4-0 lead. Jimenez was able to take a win at the No. 4 with a dominant 6-2 win in set one and battling through a 7-5 second set. This made the score 4-1. The Hawks were able to take the No. 3 match to make it 5-1. At the No. 2 spot, Zeikidze fell 6-2 in her first set but was able to dominate in the second set to take the set win at 6-0. This forced a tie break that the Hawks were able to battle out and take 13-11. The Hawks took the match with a final score of 6-1.
Men's and Women's Tennis return tomorrow against Augustana. This will be the first Men's Tennis conference match.
