Women's Basketball drops road contest to Missouri Southern

Jets fall to Missouri Southern, 77-44

JOPLIN, Mo.- The Jets traveled to Missouri Southern to face the Loins for the second time this season. The last time out, the Jets defeated the Lions 64-61. This time out, the Jets fell 77-40.

How it Happened:
- Saige Grampsas gave the Jets their first lead of the game after hitting from behind the arc to take the 3-2 lead. The Lions then went on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 10-3 with under four minutes to play in the first quarter. A three by Layla Pierce cut the Lions lead in half. Pierce then hit another three on the next Jets offensive possession to make it a one point game in favor of the Lions. The Lions answered with a three-point play to take their lead to four. Paige Craft then scored her first basket of the contest to cut it to 13-11 with under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The Lions took their lead to three points with free throws after MSSU was fouled on a shot as time expired. The Jets trailed 16-13 heading into the second ten minutes of action.
- Out of the quarter break, the Lions went on a 4-0 run to take their lead to 20-13. Delainey Wylie hit her first points of the game after connecting from behind the arc, making the deficit just four points. The Lions then went on a 7-0 run, allowing them to take their lead to 27-16 with just over five minutes to play in the half. Free throws by Jaeden McMillin stopped the Lions run and cut it to a nine point game with four minutes left. The Lions continued to push their lead out. MSSU was able to take their lead out to 36-18 at the minute mark, their largest lead of the game. Valeriya Lioukina added her first point after earning free throws to stop the run, but the Lions were able to score with under 20 seconds left to take their lead out to 38-19 to end the half. Pierce led the Jets with six points in the half. The Jets went just 1-10 from the floor in the second quarter.
-The Lions came out of the halftime break on a 10-0 run. Craft ended the Jets offensive drought with a layup. Though the Jets cut the Lions run, MSSU continued to roll offensively. After the bucket by Craft, the Lions then went on a 9-0 run to take their lead to 57-21. Pierce scored her eighth point of the night with just over three minutes left in the quarter. To end the third quarter, Hayley Hughes scored her first points of the night and Brooklyn Love added her first to take the score to 58-28.
- Pierce was the first to score in the fourth quarter with her 11th point of the night. Grampsas followed Pierce's basket with a bucket of her own to cut it to 58-33. Though the Jets made an effort in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit, the Lions had created too much of a lead for the Jets to make a dent in it. The Jets would fall to the Lions, 77-40
