Women’s Basketball falls on the road to No. 6 Pittsburg State

Jets fall to PSU, 74-49

PITTSBURG, Kan.-  The Jets traveled to Pittsburg to face No. 6 Pitt State for the second time this season. Last time out against the Gorillas, the Jets fell 77-50. This time out, the Jets fell 74-49. 
 
How it Happened:
- The Gorillas jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first five minutes of play. Paige Craft scored to stop the PSU run. This basket was followed by a Saige Grampsas three pointer that cut the deficit just nine points. The Gorillas were then able to extend their lead to 15 points with just over three minutes left in the quarter. Layla Pierce hit a three pointer to cut it to 12 points on the next possession. Free throws by Valeriya Lioukina cut the deficit to just ten points with under two minutes left. The Gorillas hit a three to extend the lead to 13, but on the last Jets offensive possession of the quarter, Pierce hit her second three pointer to cut it to 25-15 in favor of the Gorillas. 
- Out of the quarter break, the Gorillas went on a run that took their lead out to 31-15. Dani Williams tried to end the Gorillas run with a bucket, but the Gorillas answered with a three-pointer. The Jets were able to cut the deficit back to 15 points with just over four minutes remaining in the half. PSU then led by as much as 21 points in the quarter. To close out the half, CharlizeWilliams connected with two points to make the deficit 19 points. The Jets defense held the Gorillas scoreless for the remaining minute and a half, which put the Jets down 44-25 heading into the halftime break. 
- After halftime, the Gorillas were first to the scoreboard in the second half, taking their lead to 28 points at just under the five minute mark. A Delainey Wylie three-pointer tried to get the Jets offense rolling, but the Gorillas continued to have the answer on the offensive end. The Gorillas had their largest lead at the three minute mark with the 60-30 lead. Back-to-back baskets by Monica Redondo and Jaeden McMillin cut the deficit to 25. To end the quarter, the Gorillas had the lead at 63-35. 
- The Jets outscored the Gorillas in the final quarter at 14-12. The Jets were able to cut the deficit to 25 points to end the game. The Gorillas took the match up, 74-49. 
 
Player Notes:
- McMillin led the Jets with ten points and eight rebounds.
- Craft, Lioukina, Pierce, and Wylie all added six points.
- Wylie went 2-2 from behind the arc. 
- Brooklyn Love grabbed six rebounds, two blocks, and added three points.
 
Women's Basketball returns home next week to face Nebraska Kearney on Wednesday for homecoming and Saturday to face Fort Hays State.
