Jets faced Harding and Drury on day one in Arkansas

BENTONVILLE, Ark.- The Jets faced Harding and Drury on day one of the Alvin Early Classic in Arkansas. First, the Jets faced Harding where they lost, 9-0. Against the Panthers, Newman lost a close 4-2 game. 

Vs. Harding: 
-The Bison held the Jets scoreless in the top of the first inning. Then in the bottom of the first inning, the Bison hit a two run homerun to take the 2-0 lead. The Bison then added onto their lead in the bottom of the second inning with their second home run of the game to make it 3-0. The Bison were able to add another run in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 4-0 heading into the 3rd inning.  In the bottom of the third inning, the Bisons bats were hot and scored five runs to take the score to 9-0. In the top of the fourth inning, the Jets were held scoreless. The Jets held the Bison to no runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Jets were then held scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, allowing the Bison to take the game 9-0. 

Player Notes:
-Tori Waggoner went 1-2 from the plate with a double.


Vs. Drury:
-The Jets, led by Katelyn Westover held the Panthers to no runs or hits in the first inning. AJ Borja recorded the first hit of the game for Newman with a double to center field. Drury made a big defensive effort to hold the Jets scoreless. In the top of the second, the Panthers were able to get a hit, but it didn't lead to anything. In an eventful bottom of the second inning, Hannah Norby's single to center field scored Isabella Armendari, who got on base with a walk and then advanced to second and third base, to give Newman an early lead. Lauren McNaught, who also got on base with a walk, stole home to score the Jets' second run. Nordby recorded two stolen bases in the inning. After that, three quick ground outs ended the top of the third for Drury. Armendari got the only Jet hit in the bottom of the third, leaving two runners on base. In the top of the fourth, the Panthers recorded a single and a double to start the inning. Following that, a line out and a homer scored four runs for Drury, giving them the lead. Paola Zamacona entered the game on the mound for the Jets to face the last batter in the top of the fourth. Three quick outs brought the Jets defense back out. In the top of the fifth, Drury had two hits but they led to nothing. The Jets couldn't get a hit in the bottom of the fifth, bringing Drury's bats back out. The 6th inning went hitless and no strikeouts were recorded. Newman defended well the top of the seventh and didn't allow any hits or runs. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, a walk by Borja gave the Jets hope but it wasn't enough to score a run and the game ended 4-2 in favor of the Panthers.

Player Notes:
-AJ Borja goes 1-3 from the plate with a double.
-Armendariz records a hit and a run.
-McNaught made a run stealing home.

The Jets will face Arkansas Tech and Upper Iowa tomorrow in day 2 of the Alvin Early Classic.
