Men’s Tennis defeats the Vikings, Women’s Tennis falls short

Men's Tennis won 4-3 over Augustana to start conference play

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Men's and Women's Tennis finished out their road trip against Augustana in Kansas City. The Women's team competed first, falling 5-2. The Men's team opened up their conference play against the Vikings, where they were able to battle out a 4-3 win.  

Men's Tennis: NU 4, AU 3
The Vikings were able to snag the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 spot and No. 3 spot. Pavlo Vysotin and Andrea Bramatic were able to secure the No. 2 doubles match, but it wasn't enough to take the point. Augustana had the 1-0 lead heading into the six singles matches. The Vikings took the No. 1 singles match to give them a 2-0 lead. Vysotin was able to battle his opponent to take the win at the No. 2 spot at 7-5 and 6-4. Then, Nicolo Lippolis dropped his first set, but came back with energy to take the next two sets at 6-5 and 7-5 to take the point at the No. 3 spot. Tikhon Sorokin also battled for his win, taking his first set 6-2 but then dropping his second set at 6-4. The third set went to a tie break that Tikhon pulled out at 13-11 that gave the Jets their third point and the 3-2 lead. At the No. 5 spot Andrea Torrini dominated in his win with a 6-4 first set and 6-1 second set. This was enough for the Jets to clinch the match. The Vikings were able to secure one more point at the No. 6 spot, but the Jets would go on to take the win at 4-3. 

Women's Tennis: NU 2, AU 5
The Jets were unable to take the doubles point, giving the Vikings an early 1-0 lead. Dana Issabayeva won her match at the No. 1 spot with a battle in the first set at 7-5 then a 6-4 win in the second set. This made the score 1-1. The Vikings were able to take the No. 2 spot to give them the 2-1 win. Then at the No. 3 spot, Luna Feillon won her match at 6-3 and 6-2 to make it 2-2. The Vikings went on to take the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 matches to take the win at 5-2. 

Up Next: Men's and Women's Tennis will head to Lawton, Oklahoma on March 7 and 8 to face Cameron and Midwestern State.
