Softball outmatched by No. 6 RSU

WICHITA- The Jets hosted the No. 6 Rogers State Hillcats in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. After getting their first MIAA win of the season on Friday against NSU, Newman lost game one to RSU, 7-2. The Hillcats took game two 21-0. 

Game 1: NU 2, RSU 7
Zoe Fulks started on the mound for the Jets. The ranked Hillcats were first to score, hitting a single and a home run to add three runs in the top of the first. But the Jets answered right back, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning with singles by Lani Dryden and Hannah Nordby, and a double by AJ Borja. The Jets held off RSU to no hits or runs in the second. Then, only Lauren McNaught was able to get a hit before the end of the second. Newman ended the top of the third with a great double play. Malie Noda earned a walk in the third, and Nordby hit a single but the Jets couldn't score them. The fourth inning went hitless and scoreless for both teams. For a second consecutive inning, the Jets denied the Hillcats from getting a hit. Dryden and Noda hit singles for the Jets but they were stopped before they could score. The top of the sixth saw RSU increase their lead to 6-2 off of two hits, an error, and a couple of free bases. Lydia Weldon entered the game for Fulks on the mound before the end of the sixth. The Jets couldn't answer in the bottom of the sixth as only Lauren McNaught was able to get on base with a hit. A walk and a hit scored the Hillcats' seventh run of the game in the top of the seventh. Lani Dryden got a hit and was able to advance to third, but the third and final out was recorded before she could score. RSU took game one 7-2

-Dryden led, going 3-4 and scoring a run.
-McNaught and Nordby got two hits.
-Borja hit a double.

Game 2: NU 0, RSU 21
Katelyn Westover and Paola Zamacona threw for the Jets in a top of the first inning that saw the Hillcats score twelve runs on eleven hits. Three of the eleven hits were home runs, three were doubles and the remaining five were singles. The Jets weren't able to answer in the bottom half of the inning. RSU added four more runs in the second inning off of five single hits and two errors. Gianna Navarro was the only Jet able to get a hit before the second inning ended. Rogers State hit a two-run home run in the third to set the score at 18-0. The Jets couldn't answer in the bottom half of the frame. Lydia Weldon entered the game to replace Zamacona on the mound in the top of the fourth. The Hillcats went on to score three more runs from a double and three singles. Tori Waggoner hit a lead off single in the bottom of the fourth. Following that, AJ Borja got on base with an earned walk. Then, Nordby also walked to load the bases for the Jets. The Hillcats got out of the inning without allowing any runs. The Jets retired the three batters they faced in the top of the fifth. Newman tried to prevent RSU from ending the game early, but the ranked Hillcats recorded three outs without allowing any runs to take the game 21-0.

The Jets will host Northwestern Oklahoma State in a non-conference matchup before going away for two conference doubleheaders next week.
