Maryville, Mo. -Softball played the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in their second MIAA matchup in as many days. After dropping both against Missouri Western yesterday, Newman lost game one at the Bearcat Softball Field 0-18. Game two ended 0-9 in favor of NWMSU.
Game 1: NU 0, NWMSU 18
Lani Dryden got a lead off single in the first at bat of the game for Newman. Then, in the bottom of the first, the Bearcats scored two runs from a single and two doubles.
Kinyon DeCorte started on the mound for the Jets. In the second frame, the Jets weren't able to answer with any hits or runs, and the Bearcats capitalized on the opportunity adding four runs to their tally from four doubles and a single. Half way through the half inning,
Lydia Weldon entered the game for DeCorte. Then, towards the end of the inning,
Katelyn Westover subbed in for Weldon and got a strike out to end the inning. Newman couldn't get on the board in the top half of the third. NWMSU scored one more run from three singles to set the score at 0-7. In the fourth inning, the Jets couldn't get on base and the Bearcats continued their momentum scoring eleven runs from eight singles and a four-run homer run.
Reghann Fairbairn got Newman's second hit in the top of the fifth, but the Jets couldn't reduce the deficit to less than ten and saw the game end, 0-18.

Game 2: NU 0, NWMSU 9
Dryden earned a walk to start the second game. Then, a single by
AJ Borja and another walk by Fairbairn loaded the bases for the Jets. A good defensive effort by the Bearcats denied the Jets from scoring.
Paola Zamacona led Newman's defense from the mound and helped the Jets retire the three batters that they faced in the bottom of the first. In the second frame, Newman wasn't able to get on base and the Bearcats scored three runs off of six singles and a double. Dryden got on base with a walk in the top of the third. Borja joined her on the bags with a fielder's choice. A strike out ended the offensive inning for Newman. Three walks and a single scored NW's fifth run and forced Newman to change their pitcher.
Maddie Rae Romo came in for Zamacona and helped the Jets' defense record two out to end the inning. In the top of the fourth frame,
Lauren McNaught got on base with a single hit to the shortstop but Newman couldn't score her. The Bearcats seized the opportunity and scored four runs from four singles and a double to increase their lead to 0-9. Newman couldn't score in the top of the fifth, leading to a final 0-9 score in favor of NWMSU.
