Baseball defeats Bearcats in series finale

Jets take game three, 12-11

MARYVILLE, Mo.- The Jets capped off their three game weekend series against the Bearcats with a win. Newman took the series finale, 12-11.

How it Happened:
- Gio De Graauw started on the mound for the Jets. De Graauw and the defense shut the Bearcats out in the first inning, keeping the score tied and zero heading into the second inning. The Jets offense was held off again in the bottom of the second, but De Graauw and the Jets defense shut out the Bearcats. In the top of the third inning, Nicolas Ely led off with a single. Later, Anthony Cannavino doubled to right that advanced Ely to third. A walk drawn by Micah Kobuszewski loaded the bases for the Jets. With bases loaded, the Bearcats made an error that allowed two Jets to score to take the 2-0 lead. The Bearcats cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second with a solo homerun to make it 2-1, still in favor of the Jets. The Jets offense had a huge fourth inning, scoring seven total runs. With a hit by pitch, followed by singles by Ely and Hunter Brown, the Jets loaded the bases. Another hit by pitch with the bases loaded scored the Jets third run. Then, a single by Eli Wohl scored the Jets fourth run. Another walk drawn by the Jets scored the fifth run. Blake Mitchell then came up to the plate with the bases loaded, hitting a grand slam to take the Jets out to a 9-1 lead. The Jets defense held the Bearcats scoreless and hitless in the bottom half of the inning to keep the eight run lead.
- The Bearcats were next to score with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 9-3. The Jets responded in the top of the sixth with another run. Kobuszewski doubled to right field, and would later score by another Bearcats error to make it 10-3. The Jets tacked onto their lead in the top of the seventh. Ely hit a leadoff double, which was followed by a Brown double to make it an 11-3 Jets lead. Wohl then hit a sacrifice fly to score the Jets 12th run to take the 12-3 lead. A home run and a Jets error in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Bearcats to cut into the deficit and make it a 12-6 contest. The Bearcats were able to hold the Jets scoreless in the eighth and ninth to make it a 12-6 game heading into the bottom of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, two hits helped the Bearcats close the gap to 12-8. Then, the Bearcats connected with a three-run home run to cut the score to 12-11 with two outs. The Jets were able to escape the inning to take the win, 12-11.
