Jennies take doubleheader over Jets

Jets fall 8-0 in game one, 9-2 in game two

WARRENSBURG, Mo.- Softball traveled to Central Missouri for a Friday afternoon doubleheader. In game one, the Jennies took the game 8-0 through six innings of play. In game two, the Jennies took the game 9-2. 

Game One: NU 0, UCM 8
- The Jennies added one run in the first inning to take the early lead. A home run in the bottom of the fourth inning added to the Jennies lead, taking it to 2-0. The Jennies then added five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 7-0. A three-run home run helped lead the Jennies to the seven run lead. Through six innings, the Jets offense was held to no runs and one hit with four left on base after earning three walks. In the bottom of the sixth, the Jennies were able to add one more run to close out the game with an 8-0 win. 

Player Notes:
- Hayley Bonython added the Jets only hit.
- Brooke Weimer of UCM pitched a complete game allowing just one hit, three strikeouts, and three batters walked. 

Game Two: NU 2, UCM 9
- The Jets were held scoreless in the first inning, but the Jets defense and Paola Zamacona held the Jennies to just one hit in the bottom of the first to keep it even at zero. The Jennies were first to score in the bottom of the second with one hit that scored one run. The Jennies had a huge third inning, adding six total runs in the inning that took their lead out to 7-0. The Jets offense continued to be held scoreless. UCM added their eighth run in the bottom of the fourth to make it an 8-0 deficit. The Jets were able to cut into the eight run deficit in the top of the fifth. AJ Borja doubled to right field to get the Jets offense rolling. Tori Waggoner followed this up with a walk. Then, Reghann Fairbairn singles to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Bonython hit a sacrifice fly to score Borja and the Jets first run of the day. Lani Dryden then singled to left field that scored Waggoner to cut the Jennies lead to 8-2. The Jennies added one run in the bottom of the sixth to take their lead out to seven runs at 9-2. The Jets were unable to cut the deficit in the top of the seventh, allowing the Jennies to take game two at 9-2. 

Player Notes: 
-Dryden led the Jets going 2-4 with one RBI. 
-Bonython added an RBI with one hit.

The Jets head over to Emporia State tomorrow to face the Hornets in a doubleheader starting at 12 PM.
