WICHITA- After eleven years leading the Jets cheer and dance program, Brandy Muncy stepped away on Friday, May 30th.

"Being the cheer and dance coach at Newman University for the past eleven years has been such a special part of my life," said Muncy.

Under Muncy's leadership, the spirit squads have increased their involvement in community events, and have helped showcase Newman school spirit at events both on- and off-campus over the past four years. 

"I'm thankful for all the experiences I've had with our amazing teams, the faculty, and the community," said Muncy. "There are so many memories I'll hold onto - the exciting, the tough, and the ones that made us laugh."

During the 2022-2023 season, the spirit squads competed for the first time at the Fort Hays Invitational. In the program's first ever invite, dance took home first place and cheer finished in third place.

A few of Muncy's favorite moments while leading the Jets include: traveling to Heartland and MIAA conference tournaments over the years, choreographing the homecoming pregame introductions, taking the team to compete for the first time, and coordinating the faculty/staff halftime performance in fall 2023.

"To all the past, current, and future team members- I look forward to cheering you on from a different position," said Muncy. "This program has meant so much to me and my family. I need to take time to thank my husband for being my rock and supporter throughout my time coaching. Matt, Carter, McClain and Hudson have always been my biggest cheerleaders."

Assistant coaches Katherine Sullivan and Paige Roubideaux will remain on staff with Sullivan as the Dance Coach and Roubideaux as Head Cheer Coach. 

Roubideaux enters her fourth season with the Jets in the 2025-2026 season, and first leading the program. Roubideaux was a member of the Newman Cheer team for four years from 2019-2022. 

Sullivan will enter into her fourth season with the Jets in the 2025-26 season and will continue assisting the Cheer & Dance program with oversight of the dance team. Sullivan was a four year student-athlete for the Jets, being on the dance team from 2017-2021.
