WICHITA- The Jets hosted the Washburn Ichabods to end the weekend of MIAA play. The Jets would fall short, 69-55.
How it Happened:
- The Jets would hop out to an 8-4 lead in the first quarter with two baskets by
Valeriya Lioukina and a three-pointer by
Alexis Martin. The Ichabods would later tie the game at ten all with just over four to play. The Ichabods would put together a 9-0 run, taking the lead at 16-10. A jumper by
Paige Craft stopped this surge by the Bods. The quarter would later end with the Ichabods holding the 22-14 lead.
- A 5-0 run by Washburn started the second quarter, moving their lead to 27-14. The Jets responded with a 7-0 of their own, with points from
Jaeden McMillin, Craft, and
Monica Redondo. After this surge by the Jets, Newman trailed 27-21 at the six minute mark. Another short surge by the Ichabods pushed the deficit to nine points.
Carli Carlson then hit a three-pointer to make the contest 30-24 at the four minute mark. A few minutes later, Carlson connected with another three-pointer to close the gap to 33-28. To end the half,
Delainey Wylie added a three-pointer. The Ichabods held the lead at the halfway point, 35-31. Craft led the Jets through the first half with seven points.
- Out of the halftime break, the Ichabods would score first. Though the Jets would put a 4-0 run on the board making the contest just a two point game. Later, a layup from McMillin would close the deficit to just one point at the seven minute mark. Wylie would then connect from behind the arc to give the Jets the 40-38 lead. At the media break of the third quarter, the contest would tied 40-40. A 5-0 run would boost the Ichabods to a 45-40 lead with under three minutes to play in the third quarter. Wylie scored her ninth point, third three of the game, to cut this run and make it a 45-43 contest with two minutes to play in the quarter. At the end of the third quarter, the Ichabods would score one more free throw which was followed by a floater by
Dani Williams. The Jets trailed 46-45 at the end of three.
- The Ichabods started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run. Later a three-pointer from Martin would hit from behind the arc, to make it a four point game with five minutes to play. Carlson would hit her third three of the game, making it a 54-53 Washburn lead with 3:30 to play. Washburn responded with a 4-0 run, pushing their lead to 58-53 forcing the Jets into a timeout at the 2:30 mark. The Jets closed the gap to a three-point game with a basket by Craft, but the Ichabods hit a three-pointer to push their lead to six with under two to play. With one minute to go, the Ichabods hit free throws to take an eight point lead. This would prove to be too large of a deficit for the Jets to come back from. The Ichabods took the contest, 69-55.

- McMillin led the Jets on the boards, with 12.
Newman hits the road to face Arkansas Fort Smith and Northeastern State on Thursday and Saturday of next week.
