Last Time Out
The Jets fell short against the Jennies and No. 1 Ichabods last weekend. Against the Jennies, Cyrus Shaw led the Jets with 18 points. Sam Somerhalder tallied 12 points. The Jets shot 27.27% from the floor, scoring 57 points to the Jennies 96 points. After the Jennies defeated the Jets, their win total on the season would climb to 14. 

After facing Central Missouri on Wednesday, the Jets hosted top ranked Washburn. The talented Ichabod squad hopped out to an 11-2 lead. The Jets would later cut the score to 29-15 with under 11 minutes to play in the first half, but the Ichabods offense would continue to surge. At the halftime break, Jacob Joe scored eight points to lead the Jets, heading into the locker room down 55-33. The deficit proved to be too large for Newman to cut into in the second half of play. The Ichabods took the win, 107-74. Kobe Freeman led the way with 16 points. Shaw added 13 points and five rebounds. Terrell Wright scored nine points, brought down ten rebounds, and tied the Men's Basketball record for single game blocks. 

Scouting the Jets 
The Jets are averaging 77.5 points per game while allowing 81.5 on the defensive end. As a team, Newman is shooting 45 percent from the field, 36.9%  percent from beyond the arc. McClure leads the team with 11.1 points per game shooting 54.9% from the field and 42.2% from behind the three point line. Cyrus Shaw continues to emerge for the Jets on the offensive side of the ball. Shaw is now averaging 8.3 points per game. Somerhalder tallies 7.6 points per game with 4.6 boards a game. 

Behind Enemy Lines
The Lions are currently on a three game losing streak, after being ranked No. 11 last week. This week the Lions earned the No. 16 spot in the polls. The last three games faced were against Rogers State, Central Oklahoma, and Northeastern State. Last weekend, the Lions lost to UCO 93-86 and lost to NSU 71-63. In the game against UCO, Jarren McAllister led the way with 22 points. Three other Lions scored double digits, including Brandon Scott with 19 points. In the loss against NSU, Scott led the way with 21 points and was the only double-digit scorer. The Lions are averaging 83.4 points per game, allowing their opponents 67.9 points per game. UAFS shoots the ball 29.8% from the field and 36.3% from the three-point line. Individually, Scott leads the way with 13.3 points per game. Christian Moore averages 11.8 points per game with 4.6 assists. Kameron Johnson averages 7.3 rebounds a game with 9.1 points per game. 

Northeastern State is on a two game win streak, defeating Rogers State and Arkansas-Forth Smith last weekend. Against the Hillcats, NSU took the win 96-87. In the win over RSU, Xavier Glenn led the way with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Glenn went 11-14 from the field, 2-2 from the three. There were three other NSU scorers in double-digits. In the win over UAFS, Taven Washington led NSU with 15 points. Two other Riverhawks scored double-digits in the win. NSU is averaging 87.9 points per game, holding their opponents to 79.1 a game. The Riverhawks are shooting 49.6% from the field and 37.6% from behind the arc. Individually, Glenn is leading the way with 19.6 points per game. Ethan Blackmon is scoring 13.4 per game with 8.8 rebounds a game. Three other Riverhawks are averaging double-digit points. 


The Series
- The Jets lead the series 4-3 against UAFS. The last matchup went in favor of the Lions, 89-59 back in December 2025. 

- The Jets have a 7-8 record against NSU. The last matchup was in December of 2025, where Newman took the 81-71 win. 

Next Up
Newman stays out on the road next week, heading to Central Oklahoma on January 28th and then Rogers State on January 31st.
