Jets Drop to Lopers 3-1

Wichita, KS - Newman fell to Neb.-Kearney 3-1 Friday. The Jets' set win came in the second, when they moved from down 18-17 to ahead 22-19 before taking the set 25-23, but UNK won the other three sets.

How it Happened:
Set 1 (15-25)
The Jets pulled even at 2-2 on an Avery Kelley kill and a UNK attack error, but the Lopers moved ahead 8-3 behind multiple kills. The visitors stretched the margin to 14-7 before Sky Miller started a NU push with a kill, and Madalyn Hoot served four straight Jets points as Miller added two kills and Kelley capped the stretch to make it 14-12. UNK answered with a kill, a block, and a service ace to go back in front 17-12, then kept the margin at least four points the rest of the set. After Priscilla Raschen's kill made it 19-14 and a Lopers bad set made it 20-15, UNK scored five of the final six points to take the opening set 25-15.

Set 2 (25-23)
The Jets built a 10-5 lead in the second set as Reese Johnson's service turn included kills by Miller, Isabella Lamb and Miller. UNK answered with six straight points, including four blocks and kills, to move in front 11-10 before the teams traded swings into a 17-16 Jets lead on a Miller ace. The Lopers went back ahead 18-17, but Raschen tied it with a kill, MaddyLynn Shumway served an ace, Lamb and Ashlyn Warburton combined on a block and Lamb added a kill as NU moved ahead 21-18 before reaching 22-19 on a service error. After UNK pulled even at 23-23, Lamb gave the Jets set point with a kill, and Miller finished the 25-23 set win off a Hoot assist.

Set 3 (9-25)
After Kelley's kill from Hoot tied the third set at 1-1, UNK scored four straight points to go in front 5-1 before Raschen's kill and Shumway's ace pulled the Jets within 5-3. The Lopers answered with the next three points and later used kills plus two NU attack errors to extend the lead to 12-4, while Lamb, Miller and Hoot provided the Jets' next kills as the set moved to 16-8. UNK scored five straight points to reach 21-8, and after Kelley's kill made it 21-9, UNK closed with four straight points for a 25-9 set win.

Set 4 (13-25)
UNK opened the fourth set with four straight points with a kill, two service aces, and a block. Miller supplied the Jets' early response with kills that made it 4-2 and 7-3 before serving an ace to pull NU within 7-4, but the Lopers moved back ahead 13-6 behind two kills and a ace. The Jets got kills from Lamb, Kelley and Miller during the middle of the set and were within 17-12 after Miller's kill from Hoot. UNK answered with six straight points to reach 23-12, and after Kelley's kill stopped that run, a Jets setting error and a service ace for Neb. Kearney closed the set at 25-13.
