Jets Earn First MIAA Point in 1-1 Draw at Fort Hays State

10/4/2026 7:42:00 PM

HAYS, Kan. — Newman earned its first MIAA point of the season Sunday, playing Fort Hays State to a 1-1 draw at FHSU Soccer Stadium. Emma Lintecum made eight saves to keep the Jets level despite an 18-7 Tiger advantage in shots, and Newman put six of its seven shots on goal, nearly double its season average of 3.09.

How it Happened
Fort Hays State controlled the opening stretch, taking five shots between the sixth and 15th minutes, but Lintecum saved four of them to keep the match scoreless. The Tigers added two more shots on target and a corner kick between the 22nd and 24th minutes, and Lintecum turned both away before Victoria Sandoval took the Jets' first shot in the 29th minute.

Newman found its footing late in the half, as Emilia Alvarez and Allison Hernandez each forced saves from FHSU goalkeeper Katie Stoskopf. Izzy Sandoval broke through in the 43rd minute, finishing off a Keilann Heath assist for her first goal of the season, and the Jets carried a 1-0 lead into halftime after the Tigers sent a final shot wide. The assist was also Heath's first of the season.

Fort Hays State answered early in the second half, as Lily Marshall scored off an Erin Cate assist in the 50th minute, shortly after a Tiger corner kick, to tie the match 1-1. Lintecum saved a Chloe Rodriguez shot less than a minute later, and the half turned physical, with Newman's Lexi Bauer and Kylie Campbell each receiving yellow cards. The Jets made their strongest push between the 78th and 84th minutes, as Hernandez put two shots on goal around a saved Mya Campbell attempt and two Newman corner kicks. Lintecum turned away Anjaleena Gomez in the 84th minute, and neither side found a winner.
