Newman Falls to #13 Hays on the Road

HAYS, Kan. — Newman lost to Fort Hays St. 4-0 on Friday. The Jets took 13 shots but were held to two on goal, while Fort Hays St. finished with an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.

How it Happened
The Jets opened with the first attacking sequence, as Ailton Fagner Da Silva and Yohsuke Ono took shot attempts. Fort Hays St. responded with pressure on Mathis Lefevre, who saved 2 shots by Davide Francesca and JJ Espinosa, before Francesco Valenti scored from Francesca's assist at 11:26 for a 1-0 lead. Newman came back with Higor Werneck's saved shot at 15:00, but Juan Linares scored at 16:17 to extend the Tigers' lead to 2-0.

The Jets had a physical start to the second half while down 2-0, with Fagner Da Silva sending a shot right in the 51st minute and Vincent Edgell missing left in the 64th. The Tigers added to its lead when Juan Linares scored off an assist from Francesco Valenti, making it 3-0 after a Fort Hays St. shot sequence in front of goal. The half stayed stop-and-start through the next stretch, with Lefevre saving Shuto Sano's shot before Fort Hays St. pushed the margin to 4-0 on another Tigers goal. Newman generated late pressure with two corners and five shots from the, including two by Daiki Okada, but Fort Hays St. held the 4-0 score through the end of the match.
