LOCKPORT, III.- The Newman University Women's Bowling traveled to compete in the Flyer Classic, a tournament that featured the most nationally ranked teams of any event the Jets have bowled this season. Over three days of competition, the Lady Jets showed they can compete with some of the best programs in the country.
The Lady Jets opened the tournament with a strong showing in five-game Baker matches, finishing with an impressive 4–1 record against ranked opponents. The day was highlighted by wins over No. 17 Tulane University and No. 7 Maryville University, setting the tone early. The strong start positioned the Jets well heading into day two, as they closed the opening round in 3rd place and proved they could match up with some of the nation's top teams.
Saturday brought new challenges as the Jets got off to a slower start in traditional team games. However, they continued to battle throughout the block, finishing the day 2–3. With a 6–4 overall record after qualifying, the Jets secured the No. 7 seed in total pinfall against one of the deepest fields of the season.
Sunday's bracket play opened with a matchup against defending national champion No. 8 Youngstown State University. The Lady Jets delivered one of their strongest performances of the weekend, winning the best-of-seven series 4–1 to advance.
In the semifinals, the Jets faced No. 4 Arkansas State University. The match was competitive throughout, but the Jets ultimately fell 2–4 despite bowling a strong series.
The weekend concluded with a rematch against Youngstown State for 7th place. The Jets jumped out to a 2–1 lead, but the defending champions rallied to win the next three games, taking the match 4–2. The Lady Jets finished 8th overall in one of the strongest fields they have seen this season, earning quality wins and gaining valuable experience against elite competition.
Up next, the Jets will travel to Wilmington, Delaware for the Wildcat Classic as they continue their push toward postseason play.
